Biography
Eva Kolarova was born in the Czech Republic.
She studied at the National Dance Conservatory in Prague, demonstrating talent at an early age. At 15, she auditioned for Maurice Béjart’s world-renowned school, the Rudra Béjart Ballet School, in Lausanne, Switzerland. She had the opportunity to work with Béjart himself, and performed some of his choreographies with his company, Béjart Ballet Lausanne. At age 17, she was accepted at the Ballet Academy in Munich, the Hoschule für Kunst und Musik, where she performed with the Bayerisches Staatsballett, under Ivan Liška.
In 2008, she joined the Ballet de l'Opéra National du Rhin, in France, under the direction of Bertrand d´At, where she became acquainted with a large repertoire that included such works as La Sylphide, Giselle and Swan Lake, and worked with acclaimed choreographers Jiří Kylián, Lucinda Childs, William Forsythe, Maurice Béjart, Johan Inger and Hans van Manen, among others. In spring 2011, she joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, in Montréal, Canada, under the direction of Gradimir Pankov. In summer 2015, she was selected for the Summer Intensive NDT in Den Hague and participated as a dancer in a project , The Haze in Sweden, a new creation by the choreographer Joseph Sturdy in collaboration with Nord i Dans. In June 2016 she joined the Ballet Jazz de Montréal, Canada.
From July 2016 she launched her career as a freelance dancer, choreographer and guest teacher as well created her own project based company called KOLAROVA DANSE based in Montréal, Canada.
Eva received numerous awards for her choreography and dance interpretation. In 2013 she received as a youngest participant the Award of Jarmila Jeřábková in Pargue. In 2010, she won a first prize at the International Dance competition in Hellas in Greece, the same year she won a Grand Prix at the IMDC in Seoul, and First Prize at the International Choreographic Competition in Nyon. In 2011, she was awarded a Special Jury Prize at the Premio Roma Danza and a Medaille d´Or at the International Choreographic Competition in Millau, France. Juries have expressed their appreciation of the precision of her movement, her poetic expressiveness, natural elegance and singular personality on stage.
As a guest performer she took part in several galas in Prague, Paris, Seoul and Leeds.
As a choreographer, she created Rêves 6 for the Ballet du Rhin, three other works for the St. Louis Dance Conservatory in France, as well as few other creations performed in Czech republic at different events, before she left to Canada.
In August 2012, she presented a full-length performance entitled, Metamorphosis of Love at the Théâtre La Chapelle in Montreal.
In September 2014, she presented her original piece Cycle at Montreal’s Festival Quartiers Danses, later remounting it for Vue sur la Relève 2015. Her new creation, Cycles: Phase 2, was selected by a jury for Métamorphose, a project curated by Montreal’s Studio 303.
In February 2016, she produced and choreographed a successful full-length performance Fragmented Mind at Cinquième Salle.
In April 2016 she start working on a new project Matière, as a choreographer in collaboration with Thomas Pachoud, who specialize in new technology and had their first residency in France in Montbéliard. The premiere of the show is plan for October 2019 in France.
In June 2017, she was selected as one of the emerging choreographers and created piece entitled Òm, for Springboard Danse Montreal.
In August 2017, she presented two short creations at the Festival des Arts in Saint-Sauveur, with the live music of Raine Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk one of the most influential cultural couples in music in Canada today.
In September 2017, she presented her new 30min long creation Constellation at Festival Quartiers Danses.
October 2017, she produced and choreographed a full-length performance Blue Dependence at Cinquième Salle, with big success.
From March till June 2018 she was invited as a guest teacher of contemporary dance and as a choreographer at renowned Korea National University in Seoul, South Korea.
In August 2018, she presented two short creations at the Festival des Arts in Saint-Sauveur, with the live music of Yemen Blues from Israel.
In September 2018, she presents her new 20min long creation Encounter at Festival Quartiers Danses.
March 2019, she created a choreographic platform LocalMotion Lab, which had its world premiere edition in Salle Rouge, Wilder Building, where she performed her new creation Re_Imagine.
Re_Imagine was extended and presented at the Festival St-Ambroise Fringe de Montréal in June 2019, the piece was nominated for a best prize.
In July 2019, she was invited as a film assistant and a choreographer at Lyceum Aplinum in Zuoz, Switzerland.
In August 2019 she performed her latest new solo Stream of Light at the Festival in Toronto, Dance made in Canada.
In December 2019, she was presented her duet Encounter, at the Festival Internacional Danza de Calle in Mexico.
From January till February 2020, she was invited as a guest choreographer and commissioned to create a 35min new work for the dance company of 10 dancers in British Columbia, Canada - Ballet Kelowna, the new work is called AS IT IS and will have its world premiere on February 14&15, 2020.
In July 2020, she created and performed a new solo piece Inner Dialogue within the special COVID project, a video dance performance entitled “Une Solitude Partagée” organized by the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur in collaboration with the Orchestre Métropolitain.
And in August 2020, she received a grant from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and was able to create and present a video dance project PAUSE TOGETHER in collaboration with Nasuna Stuart-Ulin and Vladimira Krckova.
From September 2020 till June 2021, Eva was re-invited as a choreographer and guest contemporary dance technique teacher at Korean National University of Arts in Seoul, South Korea.
